Apprentice Mechanical Fitter - Lancaster
Job Description
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Mechanical Fitter apprentice to join our Lancaster site.
Reporting into the Engineering team, you will receive all the right training and development at the site and at college whilst in a paid job. You will need a keen interest in all aspects of mechanical engineering and have a willingness to learn attitude.
Role
- Working as an apprentice mechanical fitter within an established maintenance team. Mechanical fitters use a range of tools and engineering techniques to maintain and repair plant, machinery and equipment to operational standards.
- In this role you are expected to work alongside the mechanical fitters in all aspects of their day to day work, in order to learn and develop skills, knowledge and experience.
- You will attend off site learning with a specialist training provider as well as complete NVQ training on site.
- You will be expected to undertake on-call training along side maintenance fitters during the last year of your apprentiship.
- As necessary you will be expected to work additional hours especially during shut-down periods or during major break downs.
Responsibilities
- Carrying out routine, planned and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Fault finding and fixing mechanical equipment.
- Responding to emergency breakdowns.
- To carry out modifications to existing plant and equipment.
- To install new plant and equipment as required.
- Must be prepared to work the hours to suit the needs of the business.

- Safety
- To abide by the company policy, rules and safety procedures.
- Employees are responsible for their own safety and for the safety of their workmates.
- protective equipment (PPE) is provided for your safety and must be used/worn.
- To ensure workshop housekeeping is maintained to a good standard.
- To suggest appropriate solutions to Health and Safety issues.
- To report all accidents, incidents and near misses in the correct manner.
- To have a knowledge of Permit controlled areas.
- Environmental
- To abide by company policy, rules and environmental procedures.
- Waste must be disposed of responsibly.
- Ensure spills are cleaned up correctly using the spill kits provided.
- Team-work
- To work within an established Maintenance Team.
- To work with contractors or other external personnel as required.
- To work independently as required.
- Assistance is always available, including during call-outs.
- A positive, can-do attitude helps get the job done safely and quickly.
- Treat people fairly and with respect.
- Communication
- Good communication if a fundamental part of this role.
- You must be able to understand faults, discuss issues and follow instructions.
- Use Computer based systems, as required, as part of job role.
- To be considerate to other people’s feelings and opinions.
- Training
- Due to the diversity of equipment there is always something new to learn.
- Work related training will be provided wherever there is a business need.
Other Responsibilities & Expectations
- To carry out lawful instruction from Northwood management.
- Undertake maintenance spares stock takes.
- Inform supervision of any spare parts or materials which have been used.
- Inform supervision of any spare parts or materials with pending shortages.
- Planned / up-planned shut-downs are part of our normal working life. Alternative working hours may be required and holiday restrictions will apply.

Location

Northwood Recycling Limited has an exciting opportunity for an Operations Assistant reporting to the Recycling Operations Director. This role is based at Disley site.
Under the guidance of the NRL Operations Co-ordinator, the successful candidate will have involvement in the end-to-end Northwood Recycling Ltd supply chain, supporting logistics and administration requirements for NRL’s trading activities.
Key Expectations:
- Support the facilitating of transactions agreed by the Northwood Recycling trader team by arranging freight, necessary paperwork and other administrative details.
- Liaising with customers to schedule deliveries to meet their requirements consistent with supplier expectations.
- Provide weight advice to suppliers and gather weight advice from customers. Record weight information on spread sheets and load sheets.
- Record details of trading transactions for management information, accounts payable and sales invoicing purposes.
- Raise sales invoices for internal customers (Northwood Tissue (Disley) and Northwood Tissue (Lancaster)
- Support NRL & NTD and administration staff as required.
- Cover the end-to-end Northwood Recycling supply chain.
- Arrange necessary catering requirements for relevant internal meetings
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
- Proven administration skills in a busy office environment
- Excellent MS Office knowledge
- Attention to detail & accuracy
- Strong Communication Skills
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- Experience of SAP
