Shift Manager – Telford
Are you an experienced Shift Manager looking for a new challenge? Or are you an experienced Team Leader ready to step up to the next level?
We are looking for a Shift Manager to join our Production team at our paper converting site in Telford, Shropshire. You will be responsible for ensuring that production output, quality and efficiency is achieved for your shift, whilst ensuring your team are trained and the safety objectives of your shifts are achieved in line with our group policies and procedures.
Job Opportunity
Duties of the Shift Manager will include but not be limited to:
- ensuring production always operates to maximise line efficiency, minimise cost, and safeguard safety and quality.
- building and fostering a team environment across all shifts.
- working collaboratively with various teams including Engineering, Quality, H & S, Stores, and HR to deliver the best possible production efficiency.
- managing the daily staffing levels and the process for controlling holidays as well as ensuring the crewing sheet is accurately completed and all departments are aware of the resources available.
- ensuring that the team members on shift are trained to perform the expected tasks and the sign-off documentation is completed and verified.
- leading a team, motivating the operators to achieve targets and have the correct values and beliefs.
- managing direct reports and using performance management framework to develop operators as business requirements.
- ensuring that all necessary laws and compliance standards (both statutory and our internal standards) are complied with.
- clearly communicating line performance daily and hourly targets in a professional and focused manner.
- ensuring data accuracy for Key Performance Indicators for line performance, inventory / work in progress, plan vs actual, etc.
- interfacing with the Quality Department as appropriate to ensure all QC procedures are adhered to through the teams.
- managing daily SOR meetings with your shift to foster open communication.
- taking responsibility for reaching pre-defined objectives in compliance with health and safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities of the Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician
- Ensuring all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) is completed safely, cost effectively, on time and to a satisfactory standard.
- Reporting to the Site Engineering Manager and being capable of acting as proxy if required.
- Providing a service that ensures all mechanical and electrical equipment is running to optimum performance levels and that all departmental Service Level Agreement’s and Key Performance Indicators are met.
- Reacting in a timely manner to maintenance requests.
- Following common processes and standards within the engineering department including Safety, Quality, Environment, and Security.
- Maximizing availability of all mechanical and electrical equipment through continuous improvement.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualification in a relevant engineering discipline or served a full engineering apprenticeship.
- Background in tissue/paper converting, printing, or similar industries would be advantageous.
- Significant practical engineering experience.
- Proven knowledge/experience of PLCs including Siemens S5 and S7.
- Multi-skilled in both electrical and mechanical disciplines (60/40 split).
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.
- Significant experience of AC and DC motors and drives.
- Excellent English communication skills (written & verbal) at all levels.
- Experience of working to appropriate health & safety standards and regulations.

Reporting to the Application & Integration Architect, this new role will focus on the opportunities for developing automation and reporting around our core business systems – be that low-code Apps to remove manual entry and re-keying; consolidated reporting and analytics or integrating the flow of information between our systems. This will include leveraging our investment in Microsoft technologies – Power Platform, Power Apps, Power Automate, Sharepoint & Teams.
Key RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
- Liaising across the business to understand requirements, recommend & apply solutions
- Supporting project implementations from initial training through to ongoing running
- Developing innovative, scalable, robust ‘low-code’ solutions to improve operational efficiency, administration & working practices
- Providing first and second-line support; striving for a ‘fix-it-once’ approach
- Becoming our subject matter expert in Microsoft’s Power Platform and related Sharepoint automation technologies

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL DEMONSTRATE:
- Relevant experience in a hands-on IT role in an FMCG or similar manufacturing environment

- Knowledge of Microsoft’s Power Platform / Power Automate / Sharepoint automation or similar technologies
- A logical, analytical, and creative approach to problem-solving
- A meticulous and methodical approach to work
- Able to communicate in a clear, concise, and accurate manner
- A positive team player, you’ll be agile and flexible in your approach and prepared to roll your sleeves up across IT systems and infrastructure to support business needs
- Ability to prioritise and organise workload so that deadlines are met

Location
This role has a hybrid work pattern. Contractually home based, with an expectation that circa 60% of the week will be at a company site – primarily either Oldham or Telford.
